Let's have some Fun!
Doesn't your child deserve the opportunity to perform well in school and the best career
possibilities?    At Fun with Foreign Language, we provide tools for young children to help them
realize many of  the benefits that learning a foreign language can provide.  Our mission is to
teach children age-appropriate fundamentals of a foreign language in a fun, interactive,
dynamic, safe, and nurturing group environment.  Through the use of quality kid-friendly visual,
tactile, and musical materials, children can learn a new language and culture in a way that does
not involve memorization, but rather uses engaging songs, storybooks, arts and crafts, puppets,
and games to immerse the child completely in the foreign language.

To learn about why it is important to learn a foreign language as a child, download the report,

"How do
children benefit from a foreign language?".  Download a free copy of Adobe® Acrobat®
Reader to view the report.

We currently provide Spanish classes to children ages 18 months–13 years old at
Potters Prep Learning Center in Forest Hill, MD and at the Emmorton Recreation Center in
Bel Air, MD.  Beginning in January 2009, we will begin providing Mandarin Chinese classes in
Forest Hill and Towson at
Loch Raven United Methodist Church.
A Little About What We Do
Our program is designed to focus on the first three stages of learning a language:  listening,
comprehension, and speaking.  Once students are able to demonstrate proficiency in these
three stages, reading and writing will be introduced.

Fun with Foreign Language provides a dynamic environment in which children can learn a
foreign language through a teacher.  According to an article produced by the Center for Applied
Linguistics (CAL)
www.cal.org/earlylang/, “...human interaction is the best method for fostering
both first and second language development."  Our teachers use colorful visual aids,
exaggerated speech, bright facial expressions, and energetic gestures to present classes
entirely in the foreign language.  Completely immersing the child in the foreign language allows
her to learn the language naturally—by understanding, and not by translating.

Importance of Consistent Exposure
Given that a child is more likely to learn the fundamentals of any foreign language when he is
exposed to it over time, our program is designed to teach children Spanish over several
consecutive sessions.  As the report,
"How do children benefit from a foreign language?"
indicates, a child that starts in a foreign language program, such as our program, in the early
years and consistently continues in a language program through high school and college, has
a better chance at becoming proficient in Spanish than someone who starts to learn Spanish in
middle school.

Now is the Time!
Now is the best time to enroll your young child in a program that can provide so many life-long
benefits.  Once she enters adolescence, she will never be able to learn a foreign language as
easily as she can at these optimal young years.
